Movement and pause

A completed sports venue brings training, changing, recovery, a cafe and retail into one sequence, using glazed boundaries and a consistent palette of mineral surfaces and integrated light.

The sports venue brings training together with the spaces used before and after it. Reception, a social area, a cafe, a sports shop and the training hall occupy the first floor, with changing rooms and recovery spaces above. A glazed boundary keeps the gym visible from the entrance and social areas while giving the exercise space a defined edge.

A restrained palette of mineral surfaces, muted wood textures and dark technical ceilings ties the programme together. Linear lighting follows circulation routes and is integrated into shelving, counters and mirrors. Repeated locker modules and quieter recovery rooms extend the same design approach beyond the training floor. The completed project is organised as a continuous sequence of arrival, activity, social contact and recovery.

A contemporary reading

A sports venue is also a place of arrival, preparation and return. The venue's documented cafe, social area and recovery rooms make those transitions part of the design, inviting a comparison with the wider integration of exercise and everyday social space.
