Architecture

Layers of domestic life

An 800 m² residence defined by deep eaves, stepped terraces and long garden-facing elevations. Horizontal layers connect the house to its outdoor rooms.

The completed house is presented as a low composition of alternating solid and glazed bands. Broad roof projections shelter terraces, while darker base elements anchor pale upper surfaces. The house opens towards lawns and planted edges, with outdoor paths aligned to the building’s horizontal geometry.

A covered terrace extends the main volume into the garden, giving the large residential programme a sequence of more sheltered settings. The scale is articulated through changes in height, setbacks and the depth of the eaves. Across its 800 m², the emphasis is on the way the building meets the ground and the garden.

A contemporary reading

Landscape-oriented architecture is often discussed through small retreats, but its questions also apply to larger houses. The project offers a study of how generous programmes can be broken into a more measured sequence of edges, terraces and views.
