Master Planning

A shared ground

A residential concept organised around broad green spaces, winding paths and a landscaped water edge. Repeated building forms give the neighbourhood a shared language.

Status
Concept

Developed as a concept, the Countryside Gated Community groups low residential volumes within an extensive landscape. Tall glazed bays face planted open space, while pale curved surfaces and more solid elevations create contrasting degrees of enclosure. Paths and small changes in level connect the buildings to the green setting.

The masterplan places as much emphasis on the space between buildings as on the individual homes. Lawns, trees and a water feature form a common visual structure, with repeated architectural elements giving the scheme continuity. The proposal treats the shared landscape as the connective tissue of the neighbourhood.

A contemporary reading

A current reading of residential masterplanning asks what is shared as well as what is private. Here, the landscape between homes offers the most useful starting point for considering everyday neighbourhood life.
