A house among trees

A house of deep eaves, open terraces and sheltered garden edges. Horizontal planes give this 1,500 m² concept a quiet presence among tall trees.

The residence is composed as a sequence of low roof planes, glazed rooms and planted outdoor spaces. Ground-floor bedrooms face a reflecting pond and timber terraces, with the roof extending beyond the enclosure to make a generous threshold between house and garden. Warm-toned soffits sit against pale horizontal bands and dark window frames.

The approach is equally deliberate: a broad canopy gathers arrival into the composition, while screens and changes in level give the open frontage moments of enclosure. A tensioned fabric tent shelters the garden court. Across the proposal, the garden is experienced through alternating views, sheltered edges and long horizontal lines.

A contemporary reading

Read against the current interest in material skins and landscape continuity, the project is strongest at its edges: where a roof becomes a canopy, a room opens into a terrace, and enclosure becomes a matter of degree.
