Interiors

A room around the hearth

A tall living room gathered around a veined fireplace volume. Timber planes, shelving and suspended light give generous proportions an intimate rhythm.

Status
completed

The completed house interior is organised around a substantial fireplace that divides the room without closing it off. Pale veined finishes are set against warm timber surfaces, with built-in shelving and deep upholstered seating making distinct places within the larger volume.

A ribbed timber ceiling gives direction to the adjoining space, while suspended lights emphasise the height of the central room. The interior is designed through layers: the central hearth, the surrounding furniture, the shelves at the edge, and the daylight beyond. Its character comes from the relationship between these elements as much as from individual finishes.

A contemporary reading

A contemporary reading of material longevity starts with interiors that remain spatially useful and emotionally familiar. The hearth, shelving and layered room proportions offer a basis for that conversation without depending on a passing surface treatment.
